Brittany Perry
Physical Therapist Assistant
Brittany Perry is at Delaware Tech making up for some lost time. She received her bachelor’s degree in exercise science years ago, but feeling burnt out and not finding an affordable option prevented her from further pursuing her education in physical therapy.
Her partner was in the military and the couple moved from New York to Colorado before settling in Delaware once he was discharged to be closer to family. That relocation gave Perry the opportunity to return to school and pursue a career as a physical therapist assistant.
“I have always wanted a career in the medical field because I loved the sciences and wanted to make an actual difference in people’s lives,” Perry said. “I also was always interested in fitness and exercise. The physical therapist assistant program allows me to merge my passions and get a rewarding career out of it.”
During her time in the program, Perry has found herself excelling in class and bonding with her classmates. She said being successful allowed her to overcome the self-doubt she had about returning to college. She has also enjoyed the type of learning that Delaware Tech offers.
“The program is taught by physical therapists who have dedicated many years to the profession and have so much knowledge they can share to prepare us for our future careers,” she said. “The program also gives us tons of hands-on practice during lab, which is essential to learning.”
Perry encouraged any prospective or new student to make sure they leaned on their instructors and classmates for help and support, and to get involved in community service.
“Your teachers and classmates are both such valuable resources to help keep you motivated and moving toward your goals,” she said.
After graduation, Perry plans to begin working within the physical therapy field and would like to figure out a way to incorporate therapy animals in her job.
